Duties and Responsibilities In this role, I will assume full responsibility for the efficient operation of the Engineering department including landscape and gardening, plant and equipment, technical work, carpentry, sustainability, fire and safety systems and a preventative maintenance program to provide exceptional products and services within brand operating standards. I will also ensure that rostering and manning are adequate to meet the requirements, plus organize external contractors as required. I will perform the following relevant tasks for this role: • Support Engineering Leadership: Assist the Director of Engineering in managing daily operations of the department, ensuring all facilities, systems, and equipment operate efficiently. • Team Supervision: Supervise and support the engineering team in maintenance tasks, repairs, and technical projects, ensuring high standards of performance and safety. • Preventive Maintenance: Coordinate and monitor preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maintain optimal guest comfort. • Operational Readiness: Assist in preparing the property for seasonal openings and closures, including inspections, equipment servicing, and system checks. • Budget & Inventory Control: Support budget planning and control, manage inventory of tools, materials, and spare parts. • Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to hotel safety procedures, fire regulations, and environmental standards; assist in regular audits and training. • Energy Efficiency & Sustainability: Contribute to the implementation of energy-saving initiatives and sustainability programs. • Vendor Coordination: Liaise with contractors and external suppliers for maintenance and technical services. • Guest Service Support: Respond promptly and effectively to guest maintenance requests and service needs. • Project Assistance: Support renovation and improvement projects, ensuring quality, timelines, and standards are met. • Reporting: Prepare maintenance logs, reports, and documentation as required by the Director of Engineering. By keeping abreast of industry trends and practices and updating knowledge and skills to improve the product and service offering, I will continually focus on improving maintenance and engineering practices to ensure the product remains in optimal order and in keeping with Six Senses wellness and sustainability practices. Qualifications To execute the position of Assistant Director of Engineering, I have the required qualifications, technical skills and experience in a similar or greater role in luxury hotels with proven results. I possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering in either Mechanical or Electrical disciplines and more than ten years’ experience in a similar hotel engineering role. I have solid knowledge in the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical and control systems, ensuring reliability, safety, and efficiency in complex hospitality environments. My experience includes medium-voltage systems such as subscriber supply, transformation centers, switching and insulation cells, and grounding systems. In addition, I demonstrate comprehensive expertise in low-voltage infrastructure, including main distribution boards, monitoring systems, switchgear, secondary panels, automation and control platforms such as BMS and GRMS, audiovisual systems, fire detection and alarm systems, telecommunications, CCTV, backup generators, UPS systems, lightning protection, photovoltaic installations, and electric vehicle charging systems. I maintain a strong understanding of all applicable electrical regulations and standards, along with proven experience in managing maintenance contracts and coordinating periodic inspections conducted by authorized control bodies. I also possess solid theoretical and practical knowledge of key regulatory frameworks relevant to engineering operations, including RITE, Legionella prevention, water potability, and swimming pool regulations. Through this technical expertise and regulatory knowledge, I contribute to maintaining the highest engineering standards, supporting operational excellence, and ensuring full alignment with the sustainability, safety, and quality commitments of Six Senses. I am a responsive, engaged and interactive leader, capable of building strong positive relationships with hosts that results in a shared vision of success for the operation, demonstrated ability to leverage shared resources, undertake training as needed and to manage through influence. Technical skills include Advanced MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. I am also familiar with various hotel systems including POS, PMS and CRM platforms. I am Fluent in English and Spanish is a plus. Valid Spanish Work Permit or European Union citizenship is required for this role.
