Opening in 2026, The Standard, Lisbon marks our long-awaited arrival in one of Europe’s most vibrant cities. Set at Palácio Santa Clara, overlooking Alfama and the river, the hotel blends historic roots with bold, contemporary design by architect Samuel Torres de Carvalho.

Anchored in food, music, art and culture, the property features 165 guestrooms, 24 apartments, dynamic day-to-night venues, a lobby lounge, bar, all-day dining restaurant, terraces, gardens, pool deck, café, spa, gym, event spaces, and a destination rooftop.

As we enter our pre-opening phase, we’re seeking a HR Director who embodies our Anything but Standard ethos.

Your Role

You’ll partner with the General Manager, senior leadership and Corporate HR to oversee all HR functions for the new Lisbon property. As part of the pre-opening team, you’ll lead key HR projects including recruitment planning, budget management, and implementation of HR systems and procedures to ensure a successful launch.

Once operational, you will oversee HR for more than 180 employees, supported by an HR Coordinator and the HR Director, Lifestyle EAME. You’ll provide generalist HR and L&D support, coaching department managers and ensuring effective people management across the hotel.

You’ll lead full end-to-end recruitment, develop attraction strategies, interview senior candidates, manage contracting and onboarding, and deliver pre-opening orientation for all new hires. You will also manage monthly payroll, oversee ER matters, ensure legal compliance, and contribute to wider HR projects across the brand.

About You

You bring at least 3+ years’ experience as an HR Director/Manager in a lifestyle or 4–5-star hotel in Portugal, with strong project management abilities and ideally pre-opening experience. You have solid knowledge of Portuguese employment law, CBAs, payroll, taxation, social security and benefits, along with experience building staffing and payroll budgets.

You offer broad HR and L&D expertise, high integrity, strong administrative and IT skills, and hold HR qualifications at bachelor’s level. Fluency in Portuguese and English is essential, as is eligibility to work in the EU. Flexibility during the pre-opening phase is required.

We are now looking for a Director of Sales to help lead our pre-opening efforts and introduce The Standard to the Lisbon market.

Your Role

As Director of Sales, you’ll work closely with the General Manager, Executive Team, and Global Sales to drive all sales activity for the hotel. During the pre-opening phase, you’ll oversee key sales projects and ensure our strategy is rolled out smoothly ahead of launch.

Once open, you’ll help define the revenue budget, lead the property sales team, and grow market share, ADR, and RevPAR across all segments. You will collaborate with Revenue and Marketing on promotions and packages that support monthly targets.

You’ll be the main contact for key accounts, lead the annual RFP process, and play a central role in building awareness of The Standard through networking, client meetings, hard-hat tours, fam trips, and opening events. The role also includes international travel to key markets in Portugal, Europe, Brazil, and the USA to support broader brand development.

This is a fast-paced, high-energy position suited to someone confident, social, and resilient, who enjoys building relationships and creating excitement around a new lifestyle destination.

About You

You bring 5+ years of senior hotel sales experience, including 3 years as Director of Sales in a lifestyle or 4-/5-star hotel in Lisbon or Portugal. You understand the Lisbon market, key feeder markets, and travel trends, and you have strong project management abilities. Pre-opening experience is an advantage.

You have experience developing budgets and sales plans, along with a creative, results-driven approach to developing sales initiatives. You also bring a strong network across Corporate, Groups, MICE, or Entertainment and have experience leading a sales team.

Calm under pressure, you have excellent negotiation, reporting, and communication skills. You hold relevant hospitality qualifications, are fluent in Portuguese and English, and have strong admin and IT skills. Flexibility during pre-opening and EU work eligibility are required.

Your role

You’ll support the Director of Sales and Commercial teams in delivering our pre-opening strategy and driving revenue across Leisure, Entertainment, Corporate, and Groups. You’ll help establish systems and processes, build awareness in the Lisbon market, and host hard-hat tours for clients and partners. Long term, you’ll manage accounts, develop new business, support annual sales plans, shape promotions with Revenue and Marketing, and assist with RFPs and reporting. You may travel within Portugal, Brazil, Europe, and the USA for sales calls, fairs, and events.

This is a high-energy, non-traditional Sales Manager role, requiring confidence, resilience, and a social, upbeat personality.

What you’ll need

You’ll bring 2+ years of Hotel Sales experience—ideally as a Sales Manager in a lifestyle or 4/5-star hotel in Lisbon or Portugal—with strong knowledge of the local market and feeder regions. You are organised, proactive, and confident setting up sales processes, with experience in leads, account management, proposals, and RFPs. A creative, solutions-focused mindset, strong ROI awareness, and a collaborative, engaging personality are essential. You excel in reporting, CRM use, and data accuracy, hold relevant bachelor-level qualifications, and show strong communication and attention to detail. Fluency in English and Portuguese is required; other languages are a plus. Flexibility is expected during pre-opening. Applicants must be eligible to live and work in the EU.
